It’s been a busy few months since Bryan O’Connor was appointed to head up a new General Insurance division at Island Financial Solutions (IFS).

Bryan, who has specialised in commercial insurance for the past three years, has already started to develop a range of bespoke programmes for companies and organisations across the Isle of Man that are dependent upon all types of commercial insurance, such as public liability and professional indemnity.

“This is always a particularly hectic time of year because so many policies tend to come up for renewal,” Bryan explains. “As a result, clients are very focussed on insurance related issues. My role is to advise as to the best types and correct levels of cover to suit each individual business. And in the current economic climate, people rightly expect those products to be delivered in the most cost effective manner possible.”

A key part of Bryan’s work will be focussing on new business links with commercial property owners, trust companies and corporate service providers, especially with interests in the marine and aviation fields. Given the growth in the eCommerce sector, he is forging close ties with other niche industries on the island, such as eGaming. In addition, the new IFS division also deals with personal household and motor insurance cover.

Manxman Bryan began his career in 2000 at Scottish Provident International, latterly Royal London 360, where he became a Relationship Manager. Before joining IFS, he spent three years at Marsh (Isle of Man) Ltd, leading the Client Adviser Team with particular focus on professional indemnity and the commercial property sector.

He is an Associate of the Chartered Investment & Securities Institute, holds the Certificate in Insurance and is currently working towards Chartered Insurance Broker status with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

Significantly, Bryan is also one of the only insurance professionals on the Isle of Man to hold the London Market Certificate. This means that IFS General Insurance Division clients automatically have access to the influential London insurance market, essential for many island based companies requiring specialist insurance cover.

“The exciting thing about my work is that it so varied and you get to meet a huge range of people across all industry sectors. Delivering effective commercial insurance solutions requires a lot of time and effort and attention to detail is vitally important. There is a big responsibility which goes with the territory,” said Bryan. “Insurance remains an integral part of the Isle of Man’s economy and I firmly believe that IFS is now well positioned to develop into one of the Island’s leading insurance brokers.”
